Posing is a critical component of success in bodybuilding. This guide breaks down mandatory poses, routine tips, and stage presence essentials for various divisions.

Perfecting Transitions & Routines

Smooth transitions between poses are crucial for a polished presentation. Individual routines (where applicable) should highlight your strengths and flow seamlessly.

  • Practice flowing gracefully between poses without abrupt movements.
  • For individual routines (Men's Bodybuilding, Classic Physique), choreograph a 60-90 second routine to music that showcases your best poses and transitions.
  • Model walks (Bikini, Wellness) require poise, confident turns, and a captivating stage presence.
  • Quarter turns (Figure) must maintain muscular engagement and good posture throughout each turn.
  • Always ensure your competitor number is visible and you face the judges appropriately.

Developing Stage Presence

Stage presence can significantly impact your scoring. It's about more than just hitting poses; it's how you carry yourself on stage.

  • Confidence: Stand tall, project confidence through your posture and facial expressions.
  • Maintain Tension: Even when asked to "relax," keep your core and lats engaged to maintain your physique's appearance.
  • Control & Breathing: Practice holding poses and breathing to avoid shaking or looking strained.
  • Highlight Strengths: Angle your body to accentuate your best features and downplay any weaknesses.
  • Eye Contact: Connect with the judges and the audience. Your facial expression should match the division's expectations (e.g., intensity for bodybuilding, a smile for bikini).
